Getting to Chateau de la Valouze

There are multiple ways to get to the Chateau and some are easier than others. We made this trip already and have all the options below so you don't have to do too much research!

Our top recommendation for travel (what we did and found to be easy and straight forward) is to fly into Paris, take a TGV from Paris Montparnasse to Bordeaux Saint-Jean, and then rent a car at the train station and drive up.

Air Travel

For getting to France we recommend flying into either Paris or Bordeaux. You can find direct flights to Paris from most major airports around the world. Flying into Bordeaux would require a connection within Europe.

We recommend taking a look at award tickets for anyone with a transferable rewards program credit card as there is usually award space available via Air France and KLM.

Train Travel

We found that booking train tickets and traveling through France by train is very efficient and stress free. We used the website below to book and manage our train tickets.

From Paris to Bordeaux

There are multiple train options from Paris to Bordeaux leaving from the numerous stations around Paris. We took the TGV train from Paris Montparnasse direct to Bordeaux Saint-Jean

From Paris or Bordeaux to St. Aigulin

This is the closest train station to where the Chateau is located (approximately 2.8 miles). There is no direct train that we could find from Paris to this location so you would need to make at least one change but there is a train that runs from Bordeaux to St. Aigulin. There is not a great taxi service in the area so you would either need to walk, attempt to use the taxi service, or make other arrangements to get to your accommodation.

Car Travel

Driving around in France was very easy and straight forward. We rented a car at Bordeaux Saint-Jean train station and drove the 1 hour to the venue. You could rent a car in Paris and drive down if you would like to do that or rent a car at the Bordeaux train station or airport.

If you choose to do this please remember to get an IDP (International Drivers Permit). This can be very easily done at your local AAA office.

We highly recommend renting a car since there are numerous little villages in the area worth exploring.
